The Nikon D3100 D-SLR allows users to capture stunning Full HD, 1080p resolution (1920x1080) movies. Teens Explore Photography, Creative Writing and Self Expression in End of Year Exhibition

MELVILLE, NY (July 12, 2010) – In support of the Whitney Museum of American Art’s Youth Insights Education Program, photos taken by students using Nikon D-SLR cameras are now available for viewing in an online exhibition (http://whitney.org/Education/Teens/Gallery/2010InterpretingWar).

Youth Insights is an after school program that brings a diverse group of New York City high school students together to exchange ideas, work with artists, and develop a sustained engagement with American art and culture. Youth Insights teens studied photography with Nikon photographer and Whitney Biennial 2010 artist Nina Berman. Through Berman, Nikon loaned Youth Insights fifteen Nikon D5000 cameras to students in the program, enabling students to transition from point-and-shoot cameras to entry-level D-SLRs. Berman taught the amateur photographers about aperture, depth of field and other elements of photography and helped them create their final project focused on capturing the meaning of war through photography and writing.

“Nikon was excited to provide the Youth Insights program with Nikon D-SLR’s to support aspiring student photographers,” said Lisa Baxt, Senior Communications Manager, Nikon Inc. “This Whitney Museum project was a great way to give first-time photographers an opportunity to learn from a professional and express their point-of-view through words and imagery.”

Students wrote stories, essays and poetry to complement their photographs. Their work was exhibited at the Youth Insights Spring Celebration at the Whitney Museum for an audience of more than eighty people, including family, friends, teachers and artists.

“When I first heard we were getting Nikon cameras, I thought, oh, this is a great opportunity. I had never used a SLR camera, although I had seen them around,” said Troy Cordice, 17, Bronx High School for Visual Art. “I thought it was the same thing as a digital camera, but it’s completely different. You can control everything and that’s a great opportunity I’m fortunate enough to have had.”

Student images included both literal and conceptual interpretations of war. The Youth Insights exhibit will be available for viewing online indefinitely.

MELVILLE, NY (July 7, 2010) – The images exhibited were captured with equipment, including Nikon D3S digital-SLR cameras, NIKKOR lenses, Speedlights and other accessories, kept aboard the ISS. To date, NASA has captured more than 700,000 images with Nikon equipment carried into space. Among these many images, those rare and precious photos that can only be captured from space, as well as those captured under the extremely low-light conditions of space that exhibit the superior image quality of D3S noise suppression features are introduced.

Nikon has spent many years contributing to NASA's study of space through the development and manufacture of advanced and extremely durable cameras and NIKKOR lenses. Production of NIKKOR lenses, which make the most of Nikon’s optical technologies, reached fifty million units last September. Nikon’s history with NASA began with the Nikon Photomic FTN?, a modified Nikon F camera that was used aboard the Apollo 15 in 1971. Nikon’s relationship with NASA continued even with the transition to digital when NASA placed orders for Nikon D2XS digital-SLR cameras in 2008. These cameras are still being used in space today. In 2009, NASA ordered eleven D3S cameras and seven AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED lenses for use in recording activities aboard the Space Shuttle and International Space Station. The D3S cameras were the same products available to consumers with no special modifications, and they were delivered to the ISS via the Space Shuttle Discovery launched on April 5, 2010.

MELVILLE, NY (June 30, 2010) – Nikon Corporation (Makoto Kimura, President) is pleased to announce that entries for the prestigious Nikon Photo Contest International 2010-2011 will be accepted between September 1 and November 30, 2010.

The 33rd Nikon Photo Contest International is sponsored by Nikon, and provides an opportunity for photographers of all skill levels around the world to communicate and contribute to photographic culture.

Since it’s inception in 1969, the competition has steadily gained notoriety with photographers from every corner of the Earth with more than 320,000 photographers submitting more than 1,310,000 photos. More than 18,000 photographers from 153 countries submitted more than 51,000 photos for the 2008-2009 competition. These numbers represent a new record for the largest number of entries by the most applicants from the most countries ever, making the Nikon Photo Contest International a truly global event.

The Categories:
Entries for the 2010-2011 contest will be accepted for two categories; The first category is a free subject category (A) and the second entitled "Energy” (B). Photos of any subject or theme are invited for the free subject category. Entries for the “Energy” category should be photos that capture the energy of sights and subjects that inspires, motivates or excites. Images covering a broad range of subject matter from throughout the world are expected for both categories. Entrants may not enter the same photo in both categories simultaneously.

Returning once again this year is The Emerging Talent Award, designed to embrace the growing number of younger photographers and provide them with an opportunity to share their photos with the world. Each year, young photographers capture many of the photos entered, and this award recognizes the importance of the next generation of photographers.

Fill out the application form on the Nikon Photo Contest International 2010-2011 website (http://www.nikon-ncpi.com/) and transmit image data via the form.

Number of Entries:
Two photos for each category (total of four) may be submitted.

Entry Format:
Image data captured with a digital still camera (excluding that captured by medium-format and larger digital cameras) and image data created by scanning an image captured with a film camera (35mm or APS) will be accepted. Images that have been digitally enhanced or edited with software will also be accepted.

Entries will be judged by well-known photographers currently active on the world stage. A total of 53 prizes will be awarded, with one photo to receive the contest Grand Prize. From each category, 16 photos will receive first, second and third prizes. Four photos entered by photographers aged 29 or younger will receive Emerging Talent Awards, while 16 Emerging Talent Award runners-up will have the chance to exhibit their entries in the contest Mini Gallery.
